Palo Alto Networks today announced that Curt G. Joa, Inc. (Joa) has improved and simplified its network infrastructure with the PA-4000 Series next-generation firewall. Joa selected the PA-4000 Series for its ability to identify applications, users and threats at the most granular level, enabling the company to limit non-business traffic as appropriate without any impact on critical business activities.

Since 1932, Joa has been recognized as a leader in engineering and building specialty lines of machinery that produce disposable products such as baby diapers. Joa machines are working in the factories of leading producers of these products in more than 55 countries around the world.

“Our existing firewalls and proxies weren’t giving us the level of control we needed,” said Pat Wagner, IT Director for Curt G. Joa, Inc. “The PA-4000 Series enables us to distinguish between business and non-business applications, decide which applications will run on our network and offers the added benefit of making our IT infrastructure simpler and easier to use.”

Upon implementing the PA-4000 Series, Joa discovered several threats and prohibited applications slipping past their existing firewalls and proxies – P2P, IM and spyware – that impacted performance and productivity. With the PA-4000 Series’ granular policies, Joa can eliminate those uses of its IT infrastructure.

Curt G. Joa, Inc. chose the PA-4000 Series for its unique and patent pending App-ID™ application classification technology, which allows them to not only identify traditional and emerging applications – including those that are SSL encrypted – but also create and enforce appropriate use policies down to the individual user and application. As a result, Joa can create and establish strong security policies and establish real time threat protection without sacrificing employee productivity. In addition, the PA-4000 Series offered granular, easy-to-use reports on individual users’ application usage, a capability not possible with the previous infrastructure.

“We see more and more customers who want to address the lack of application visibility and control in their networks," said Mark Sollazo, CEO for Synercomm, a Palo Alto Networks partner. “We're excited to offer the PA-4000 Series next-generation firewall because it gives organizations control of their networks again.”

“Existing security infrastructure hasn’t kept pace with Web 2.0 and other rich Internet applications,” said Steve Mullaney, Vice President of Marketing for Palo Alto Networks.  “Organizations still need to see and control the applications running across their network. The PA-4000 Series re-establishes that control and does so without any sacrifice in performance.”
