Palo Alto Networks today announced the addition of a mid-range platform offering to its family of next-generation firewalls. The new PA-2000 Series enables mid-size enterprises or enterprises with remote locations to, for the first time, cost effectively achieve comprehensive, user-specific visibility and policy control over applications flowing in and out of networks – regardless of port, protocol or SSL encryption.

With a list price starting at $12,000, the PA-2000 Series retains the full benefits and capabilities of all Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls – which include purpose-built hardware, the PAN-OS operating system and its innovative identification technologies that ensure safe and productive use of Web 2.0 and other new beneficial applications:

  • App-ID: Comprehensive visibility and control over more than 600 applications – regardless of application port, protocol, encryption or evasive tactic. Enables policy enforcement by application, category, underlying technology, behavior and risk
  • User-ID: User/group-specific policy definition and reporting via integration with Active Directory
  • Content-ID: Real-time, broad-based threat prevention (vulnerability exploits, spyware, viruses), URL filtering and file blocking

Pricing and Availability

The PA-2000 Series includes the PA-2050 and PA-2020 models. The PA-2050 supports up to 1 Gbps throughput and lists at US$16,000, and the PA-2020 supports up to 500 Mbps throughput and lists at US$12,000. Both models are available immediately.
